Welcome to this week's newsletter and a big HELLO to all my subscribers!
This week, we're diving into the realm of nutritious snacks that go beyond the basics. In our fast-paced world, snacking has become more than just a way to curb hunger between meals. Consumers are increasingly seeking portioned snacks to fit their on-the-go lifestyles and hybrid work routines. And so there is a big opportunity for brands to step into the snacking category with nutritious & delicious products. Think energy-boosting and immunity-supporting options! For consumers, taste is their number one priority over ethical concerns and functional ingredients, so brands that can deliver a perfect blend of health benefits and indulgent tastes are on to a winning formula ;) New flavours and textures that offer a brief escape from a busy lifestyle should also be considered.
Let's snack smarter, savour every bite, and celebrate the innovation transforming our snack time into a nutritious adventure.
As always, I hope this edition sparks growth in your food business

HOMESPUN OAT BARS
Erica, the founder of Homespun, has always championed delicious recipes with a nutritious twist. From versatile chicory syrup to scrumptious quinoa crunch cereals, she’s a health & wellness thought leader. I was thrilled to try her new oat bars, a healthier take on traditional flapjacks. These bars are free from refined sugar, wheat, and dairy. Their natural sweetness and slightly savoury notes make them a lot tastier than a lot of other bars on the market. Wholesome and filling, they are a welcome addition to the snacking shelves.
NUTRI JELLIES
Mark Birrane, founder of Nutri Jellies, began his journey in 2021, frustrated by the lack of healthier alternatives to high-sugar sweets in his local shop. Now, three years later, he has launched his first two products: Fizzy Cherry and Fizzy Cola. These jellies are crafted to taste great, provide 12g of protein per 100g, are low in sugar, and contain no artificial flavours. Mark's mission is to offer confectionery without compromise, making these a perfect choice for those with a sweet tooth but without the unwanted additives!
M&S PROTEIN MILKSHAKE
M&S have recently launched Protein Milkshakes, each packed with 20g of protein and a source of vitamin D, with no added sugar! Perfect for a boost on the go, and interestingly they've kept the flavours very familiar to mainstream, Strawberry, Salted Caramel, Chocolate, and Vanilla. I went with the Vanilla, and I have to say, it kept me going as I dashed through the airport last week to catch a flight that I almost missed!
NOBO PROTEIN BITES
The team at Nobo have been very busy with a whole host of new product launches recently. These soft but chewy protein bites are a fantastic addition, and are very moreish. These new protein-rich, gut-friendly energy bites are made from 100% real ingredients. They are plant-based, provide 8g of plant protein and 7g fibre, have no refined sugar and come in two flavours, peanut butter and salted caramel. I don't know which is my favourite, I'm going to have to keep eating both!! It's wonderful to see how natural the ingredients are, which can be hard to find in protein products.
GALWAY KITCHEN HOUMOUS SNACK PACK
Not every snack has to come in a packet! My kids love the Galway Kitchen houmous, so when they saw these houmous snack packs in Tesco this week, they were super excited to have something easy for their sports bag and Summer days out with their friends. The Galway Kitchen was founded out of the need for an authentic houmous, that could be made sustainably right here in Ireland. Since their launch, the very talented team there have expanded their horizons and created a wide range of globally-inspired delicious dips to transport your taste buds.
